Standing Above Moraine is a vibrant 4” x 12” oil painting capturing the bold silhouette of a lone alpine tree overlooking the iconic glacial waters of Moraine Lake. Red Tree, Moraine Lake

Red Tree, Moraine Lake is a bold, expressive interpretation of one of Canada’s most iconic landscapes in Banff National Park. The composition centres on a solitary red tree, rendered in strong graphic lines and layered blocks of colour, set against simplified mountains, water, and sky. Rather than aiming for realism, the work emphasizes mood, contrast, and rhythm — allowing colour and form to carry the sense of place.

Vibrant reds cut through cool blues and greens, creating tension and balance while guiding the eye vertically through the canvas. The painting reflects an abstracted memory of Moraine Lake, where natural elements are reduced to their emotional essence rather than their literal detail.

Forest Luminescence

Right in my own backyard, this painting captures the sensation of walking through the forest in Bass Lake Provincial Park in fall. Rich reds, warm golds, vibrant greens, and deep blues combine in an expressive interpretation of light moving through the forest canopy.

The elongated vertical format draws the eye upward through layers of foliage and slender tree trunks, creating both movement and depth. Rather than depicting a specific moment, the painting seeks to evoke the feeling of being immersed within the colour and energy of an Ontario autumn forest.
